Lahore Qalandars’ wicketkeeper-batter Sam Billings gave a candid response when asked to compare the Pakistan Super League (PSL) with the Indian Premier League (IPL)
With a touch of wit, Billings responded,
You want me to say something silly? It’s hard to look past the IPL as the premier competition in the world, it’s very obvious. Every other competition is just behind. In England (T20 Blast and The Hundred), we are trying to do the same like PSL as the second best competition in world, Big Bash (BBL) too trying to do the same.
The 33-year-old Englishman, who last played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 IPL season, is currently in strong form for Lahore Qalandars in PSL X. After a disappointing duck in the opening match, Billings bounced back with a blistering unbeaten 50 off just 19 balls against Quetta Gladiators. In the Qalandars’ latest fixture, he contributed a quick 19 off 10 balls, helping Lahore post a formidable 201/6 against the Karachi Kings.
Lahore’s bowlers then dismantled Karachi’s batting lineup, with Shaheen Afridi striking early to remove both openers for ducks. Despite a fighting 39 from Khushdil Shah, Karachi Kings were bowled out for 136, handing Lahore a commanding 65-run victory.
The win marked Lahore’s second consecutive away triumph, keeping their campaign on track ahead of their next fixture against Multan Sultans on April 22.
