Five people lost their lives and nineteen others were injured as a powerful hailstorm swept through several cities in Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to ARY News.
The storm, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, caused widespread destruction, including collapsed walls and fatal accidents, across northern Pakistan.
In Jhelum, three individuals, including a woman, were killed when their homes’ walls gave way. In Kot Addu, a young man was fatally struck by lightning, while in Rawalpindi’s Ratta Amral area, a mosque wall collapsed, resulting in the death of a young boy. Authorities reported that five of the injured remain in critical condition.
Kotli also saw significant damage, where lightning ignited a forest fire that quickly spread due to high winds. In Chilas, strong gusts caused the collapse of house walls, leading to the death of a child and injuries to two others.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, heavy rainfall triggered flash floods that swept away roads and caused widespread disruption. The Pak-Afghan highway in the Khyber district was closed due to high water levels, stranding several cargo trucks. In Mansehra, fallen power lines knocked out electricity, plunging the area into darkness. District Mohmand saw intermittent light to heavy rainfall.
