The federal government has approved a major upgrade of the Grand Trunk (G.T.) Road (N-5), aiming to convert it into a uniform three-lane carriageway on the pattern of motorways.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has been tasked with initiating work on the plan, which will be executed in two phases. Officials confirmed that the first phase is expected to be completed within the current fiscal year.
The G.T. Road, stretching from Karachi to Torkham, is Pakistan’s longest national highway and a key north-south trade route.
Senior officials from the communications ministry, economic affairs division, and planning department attended the meeting to present recommendations for its restoration and expansion.
The minister stressed the need to upgrade the road district by district to reduce travel issues. He also directed relevant departments to carry out regular inspections and prepare cost-effective proposals.
Abdul Aleem Khan said past financially unviable road projects caused major losses, adding that this project aims to ensure quality infrastructure without burdening the national exchequer. He assured strict monitoring to keep the project on track and transparent.
G T Road is not from Karachi. Please correct your knowledge.

Where is the missing link between Sukkur and Karachi? Before doing any task, how can one forget the main missing link from South to North. Despite years and years gone, federal government is more interested in all other motorways except Sukkur to Karachi missing link.
Thats motorway, which is already approved and project has been started for sukhar to karachi along with sialkot-kharian.

GT Road starts from Kabul to Kolkata extending to Bangladesh, not from Karachi to Torkham.
That is National Highway.
Basically, N5 National Highway extends from Karachi to Lahore in general and if we talk about GT Road in particular which was made by Sher Shah Suri in 16th century it is from Lahore to Landi Kotal (near Afghan Border). This complete route connects North to South for trade and other businesses… 👍
Your information on G.T road alignment is misleading. G T road is from Kolkata to Kabul. In pakistan it is from lahore to peshawar stretch. Karachi to peshawar is N-5 not G.T road.

GT road starts from Torkham and ends at Wagha border and enters India. Most omportant is the missing motorway between Sukker and Hyderabad and should be given the top priorty.motorway from to kharian to sialkot has no prorty and does not help except the contractors.

GT road is not Karachi to KPK its part of N5 from KABUL to Delhi, a part of N5 is called as GT road.

Either complete the Sialkot RawalPindi Motorway or Repair the GT road from Gujrat to Islamabad.

Great I can’t wait more to see that ease for us and people around us. That will be really beneficial for people but what will be the travel fare for these lines is it equal to orange lines.
