BYD’s New EV SUV Can Fly Drones, Self Drive, and Has Over 1300 km Range

BYD has launched the Sealion 07 DM-i Intelligent Driving Version, redefining the plug-in hybrid SUV category with industry-first technology and jaw-dropping 1300 km range. Priced between $26,300 and $31,800, the Sealion 07 delivers futuristic features and segment-leading efficiency, making it one of the most advanced and affordable PHEVs on the market.

Ocean-Inspired Design with Futuristic Tech

The Sealion 07 follows BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design language, taking cues from waves and water droplets. The SUV measures 15.8 feet in length with a 9.6-foot wheelbase and promises up to 500 km of electric WLTP range. But its true highlight is the world’s first retractable drone landing pad — enabling real-time drone integration, one-touch launch and charging, and dual air-ground photography features ideal for content creators.

Performance and Range

Beneath the exterior lies BYD’s fifth-generation DM plug-in hybrid platform, offered in both two-wheel and four-wheel drive configurations. The SUV sprints from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 134 mph. Fuel efficiency is equally impressive with NEDC-rated consumption as low as 4.7 L per 100 km. On a full tank and charge, the Sealion 07 boasts a record-breaking 1320 km combined range, putting it miles ahead of its hybrid competitors.

LiDAR Tech

The Sealion 07’s three trims are packed with BYD’s DiPilot intelligent driving systems. The base models come with DiPilot 100, featuring a triple-camera array for core driver assistance. The top-tier 135 High-Performance trim upgrades to DiPilot 300 with LiDAR, offering autonomous lane changes, traffic light recognition, and advanced environment perception, rivaling high-end ADAS setups from luxury brands.

Safety, Inside and Out

The SUV includes a high-strength body structure, ten airbags, IPB intelligent braking, 360-degree panoramic imaging, and real-time driver monitoring. Central to this protection is BYD’s Blade Battery — a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack known for superior thermal stability, longer lifespan, and ethical sourcing, free of cobalt.

Could Pakistan Be Next?

Currently available in China, the Sealion 07’s mix of affordability, innovation, and performance could make it a major hit in markets like Pakistan, where demand for tech-forward, fuel-efficient vehicles continues to rise
