Multan Sultans owner, Ali Tareen, recently opened up about what it really means to run a Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise—and, to no one’s surprise, it’s not all glitz and glamour behind the scenes.
Speaking on the ProSports Podcast, Tareen acknowledged the privilege of running a PSL franchise but admitted it’s not always as smooth as it appears when asked about being a team owner.
“To interact with the cricket community and industry is an unbelievable privilege—it’s obviously a dream come true.”
His tone quickly shifted to the drawbacks he has faced as one of the owners.
“Obviously, there are pros and cons to everything. When you are in the public eye, there is a major potential for trolling. Anyone who is active or well-known on social media gets trolled. Some people who are not thick-skinned are affected by that,” he explained.
Ali Tareen also reflected on his growth and how he learned to deal with negative feedback.
“I now embrace the hate. I am personally beyond that stage where I feel the need to be liked. Over time, you realize that you cannot live a life where everyone loves you. If everyone does love you, you are doing something wrong. I am so far beyond that need to be liked. Those who want to hate me will do so regardless,” he said with a cheeky grin.
He had one humorous complaint to share on the issue: “When we lose, no one abuses the players or the coaches, but I always get sworn at. If we win a game, the players get praised, but not the owners,” he added with a touch of humor.
The team will be hoping to rely on this positive attitude as it looks to bounce back from a stuttering start in PSL X. With Ali Tareen backing the Multan Sultans, the team is set to be the PSL’s measuring stick for years to come.
