India Demands ICC to Keep Pakistan in Different Group for Future Events

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly written to the International Cricket Council (ICC), requesting that India and Pakistan not be grouped together in future ICC tournaments.

This follows the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir, escalating tensions between the two nations.

India and Pakistan have been placed in the same group in ICC events for the past decade, but the BCCI now seeks to change this.

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla stated that the board will follow the Indian government’s directives, while a senior BCCI official told Cricbuzz there’s no truth to the request, calling it speculative. No immediate ICC events are scheduled, except the Women’s ODI World Cup in India this September, which uses a round-robin format with no groups.

The move comes amidst rising tensions between the two nations. As a result, India has banned the live streaming and broadcasting of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025) in their country.

The last encounter between Pakistan and India was during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, where BCCI strong-armed ICC into allowing them to play out the whole tournament in Dubai despite Pakistan being the host nation of the ICC event. It remains to be seen how ICC responds to such a request.
