Essex Cricket has announced the signing of Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler for the upcoming Vitality T20 Blast campaign.
Quetta Gladiators’ Mohammad Amir will return to Essex after previously playing for the club from 2017 to 2019, bringing valuable international experience to the squad.
Amir has an impressive record in T20 internationals, with 71 wickets in 62 matches at an average of 21.94. His left-arm pace will add strength to the Essex Eagles’ bowling attack for the 2025 season. During his earlier stint with Essex, Amir took 24 wickets in 21 matches and was part of the club’s historic double-winning squad in 2019, contributing 9 wickets in 5 appearances.
Recently, Amir played for the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League, where he took 7 wickets in 6 matches during April.
Expressing his excitement, Mohammad Amir said, “I am very excited to join Essex once again. I have always enjoyed my time at this club where I feel at home, and the love I received from the team and supporters was overwhelming. I look forward to contributing to the team and hopefully help the club achieve success this season.”
Essex’s Director of Cricket, Chris Silverwood, welcomed Amir’s return, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome Mo back to Chelmsford and are very excited to see him in Essex colours again. His experience and skillset will certainly strengthen our squad for the T20 Blast campaign.”
Amir will play for Essex throughout the group stage of the Vitality Blast, with the possibility of extending his stay if the team advances to the knockout rounds. He will wear the number 5 shirt for the Eagles this season.
