Islamabad United have been dethroned from the top of the PSL 10 points table after Quetta Gladiators earned a nervy two-wicket win in a thrilling encounter in Lahore.
Set a modest 158 for victory, Quetta stuttered their way to the target with one ball to spare, thanks to Hasan Nawaz, who rode his luck multiple times on his way to an unbeaten 64 off 41 balls. The win pushes the Gladiators to first place in the standings, while Islamabad, who had ruled the table since the start of the season, drop to second following their third straight defeat.
The match unfolded in a similar way for Islamabad, who never found momentum after a brisk start from Sahibzada Farhan (39 off 24) and Kyle Mayers (22 off 17). They needed a useful lower-order knock from Mohammad Nawaz (49 off 34) to post 157/9, thanks to a four-wicket burst from Faheem Ashraf (3-0-25-4), who ran through the middle order.
In reply, Quetta made a similarly wobbly start, losing both openers within four overs. But Rilee Rossouw’s steady 27 and Hasan Nawaz’s calm knock kept them afloat. Islamabad kept chipping away with regular wickets—Salman Irshad and Naseem Shah both finishing with two scalps each—but a late cameo from Mohammad Wasim (16 off 11) proved crucial before Hasan sealed the win in the final over after being dropped three times in a span of four balls.

With this win, Quetta becomes the front-runner to play the qualifier instead of an eliminator and establishes itself as a serious title contender. Islamabad, on the other hand, have mounting questions to answer as their season continues to unravel in stunning fashion. They will get their chance at revenge when these two sides meet once again in Rawalpindi on May 7, and it won’t be a surprise if they clash in the knockout stages again.
The race for the PSL playoffs is getting tighter by the day, and Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings will get their chance to make a mark on the PSL 10 points table when they face each other tonight in Lahore.
