Lahore Qalandars’ young opener Mohammad Naeem has quickly become a talking point in this year’s Pakistan Super League (PSL 2025), turning heads with his explosive batting and fearless approach at the top of the order. Despite being a relatively unknown name before the tournament, Naeem’s recent performances have silenced critics and sparked new hope for the Qalandars’ future.
Despite the doubts, Lahore Qalandars stuck with their young opener. Naeem was given the responsibility to open alongside Fakhar Zaman. The move finally paid off in a high-pressure match against Karachi Kings, where Naeem delivered a stunning 65 off just 29 balls, smashing six fours and five sixes at a strike rate of 224.13. While the Qalandars fell short in the contest, Naeem’s innings stood out as the highlight of their performance.
After his impressive knock, Naeem made it clear that he does not want to be seen as just another T20 specialist. Speaking after the match, he said,
Being limited to one format is just a mindset, nothing more. Every player has a target to represent Pakistan in Test cricket, and that’s my target too. I don’t want to be restricted to just one format or be labelled as such.
Naeem, who was picked through the franchise’s Player Development Program. His selection for Lahore Qalandars was met with skepticism from several former Pakistan cricket stars. Many questioned the decision to pick an uncapped player with limited experience, especially when more established domestic performers were available.
