Major Pakistani Airports Closed, Air Traffic Disrupted

In the wake of recent missile strikes by India on Pakistani territory, Pakistan has taken the significant step of closing its airspace and canceling all flights nationwide. This move comes amid escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Pakistan’s aviation authorities have issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) indicating the closure of the country’s airspace for 48 hours. This decision has led to the suspension of all flight operations from major airports, including Islamabad International Airport and Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport. More than 25 flights have been canceled, affecting routes to Qatar, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Riyadh.

  • Islamabad International Airport: All flight operations have been suspended until further notice.

  • Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport: Flight operations have been halted, with several flights canceled or delayed.

  • Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport: While specific details are limited, the airport is experiencing significant disruptions, with multiple flight cancellations and delays reported.

The airspace closure follows missile strikes by India targeting locations in Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General, Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, condemned the attacks as “cowardly” and assured that Pakistan would respond at a time and place of its choosing.

The United States has called for calm between India and Pakistan, urging both nations to work towards a responsible resolution that maintains long-term peace and regional stability in South Asia.
