Quetta Gladiators skipper Saud Shakeel has lauded young Hasan Nawaz for his exceptional ability to adapt and perform under pressure in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 10). The Gladiators recently set a new PSL record by posting the highest-ever team total of 263/3 against Islamabad United, thanks largely to a stunning batting display from Hasan Nawaz and Rilee Rossouw.
Hasan Nawaz, originally an opener, has been shuffled up and down the batting order throughout this season. Since skipper Saud Shakeel has reserved the opening slots for himself and Finn Allen, Hasan Nawaz has had to adapt and adjust his game in order to fit into the Gladiators’ playing XI. Saud Shakeel explained,
Hasan Nawaz deserves credit. He’s an opener but didn’t fit in our combo. We sent him at 3, then 6, now at 4. To adapt to conditions and perform under pressure at this age shows he’s special.
In the match, Hasan Nawaz showcased his aggressive batting prowess by scoring an unbeaten 100 off just 45 balls, including 4 fours and 9 sixes. He paced his innings carefully, allowing experienced teammate Rilee Rossouw to take the lead early on. Rossouw himself scored a blistering 104 from 46 deliveries. Their partnership was instrumental in propelling Quetta Gladiators to a commanding total.
Islamabad United, chasing the massive target, struggled to keep up with the pressure and were eventually bowled out for 154 runs in 19.3 overs, handing Quetta a comprehensive victory.
