Pakistan Announces Squad for Billie Jean King Cup

The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) has officially unveiled its women’s squad for the upcoming Billie Jean King Cup 2025 Asia/Oceania Group event, set to be held in Sri Lanka this June.

Following a tightly contested selection trial held at the PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad from May 5–7, three players—Amna Ali Qayum, Meheq Khokar, and Sheeza Sajid—emerged from a pool of eight top-ranked national players to secure their places in the squad. All three showcased strong form and mental toughness over multiple rounds, impressing selectors with their adaptability and court awareness.

Leading the team will be Pakistan’s most consistent performer on the international circuit, Ushna Suhail, who was granted a direct spot on the team. With a proven track record in international events and years of experience in Billie Jean King Cup play, Suhail will serve as the squad’s anchor and top singles option.

In a move that adds further stability and mentorship, former national No. 1 Sara Mansoor has been appointed as the team’s non-playing captain. Her appointment signals PTF’s intent to blend rising talent with experienced leadership—something Pakistan has often lacked in previous campaigns.

The Asia/Oceania Group event, sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), will see Pakistan compete against nations from across the region, each vying for promotion to the next tier of the Billie Jean King Cup. With the tournament just weeks away, preparations are expected to intensify in the lead-up to the team’s departure for Sri Lanka.

With young players gaining international exposure and veterans guiding from the front, the Billie Jean King Cup could become a springboard for the next era of Pakistani women’s tennis.
