Peshawar Zalmi Announces Cash Reward for Pakistan Forces

In a powerful show of patriotism and gratitude, Javed Afridi, Chairman of Peshawar Zalmi and the Zalmi Foundation, has announced a PKR 50 million tribute to Pakistan’s Air Defenders, who are credited with averting a potentially devastating crisis during the recent escalation between India and Pakistan.

The gesture comes at a tense time for the country, not just in terms of national security, but also for its flagship T20 competition, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, which has been suspended indefinitely after drone activity near Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and other security concerns prompted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to halt proceedings.

“Their unwavering courage, dedication, and sacrifice are the heartbeat of our national pride,” Afridi said in a press release. “Today, we honour them not just with words, but through meaningful action,” Peshawar Zalmi’s statement read.

Afridi’s announcement follows days of tension, including airspace closures and missile alerts across major Pakistani cities. PSL matches were postponed, foreign players began exiting the country, and the PCB eventually suspended the remainder of the tournament.

But while cricket takes a backseat, Afridi’s tribute is being seen as a timely reminder of the bigger picture. His Zalmi Foundation, which has long been involved in social development, has redirected its focus toward national security personnel, offering not just words of support but tangible financial recognition for their role in keeping the country safe.

“This contribution is more than a gesture,” the statement read. “It is a powerful symbol of national solidarity and deep respect for the heroes who shield our skies with unshakable resolve.”

Afridi, a key figure in PSL and Peshawar Zalmi’s growth and one of the league’s most vocal proponents, has remained supportive of the PCB’s decisions, urging fans and players alike to stay united during this challenging time.

While Peshawar Zalmi, like the rest of the franchises, awaits word on when PSL 10 will resume, the focus for now has shifted from cricket to country. And Afridi, true to form, has made sure his team is still playing its part.
