Lahore Qalandars Lose Sikandar Raza for PSL X

Lahore Qalandars have been dealt another blow in what has already been a challenging Pakistan Super League campaign, with confirmation that star all-rounder Sikandar Raza will not be available for the remainder of PSL X.

PSL X is returning after a brief hiatus on May 17, but the squads may look drastically different for each team. However, it is not security concerns keeping Sikandar Raza away from Lahore Qalandars but international commitments. Raza is in Zimbabwe ahead of their upcoming home Test series, which begins on May 22. The series marks a significant moment for Zimbabwean cricket as it returns to red-ball action, and the experienced Raza remains central to their plans.

The 38-year-old was one of Lahore Qalandars’ few consistent performers in this year’s PSL X, contributing with both bat and ball. Despite his team battling with Peshawar Zalmi for the last playoff spot, Raza himself was prolific throughout. In 9 matches, he scored 228 runs at a stunning strike rate of 162.85 while picking up eight wickets in eight innings.

His absence will leave a sizeable void in the Qalandars’ middle order and all-round balance as they attempt a late surge in the resumed PSL, which kicks off again on May 17.

Sikandar Raza may not be the last Lahore Qalandars player unavailable for the final stretch. There are question marks around Sam Billings and Daryl Mitchell’s participation as well, which will be answered in the coming days.

With the playoffs scheduled in Lahore and the final set for May 25, Qalandars will now have to regroup quickly and possibly look towards several replacements as they reach the playoffs and keep their dream of a third title alive.
