South Africa has unveiled a formidable 15-man squad for their inaugural appearance in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, set to take place at Lord’s from June 11 to 15, 2025.
Captain Temba Bavuma will lead the Proteas against defending champions Australia in what promises to be a historic encounter.
Lungi Ngidi’s return is the most significant headline, as he is back in the red-ball setup after recovering from a groin injury that sidelined him during the home Test series against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. His comeback adds depth to an already potent pace arsenal, which includes Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Dane Paterson, and Corbin Bosch.
The Proteas have largely maintained the core group that secured their spot in the final, making only two changes from the squad that faced Pakistan. Young pacer Kwena Maphaka and top-order batter Matthew Breetzke have been omitted.
The batting unit features a blend of experience and emerging talent. Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, and Ryan Rickelton are set to anchor the top order, while Bavuma, David Bedingham, and Tristan Stubbs provide stability in the middle. Wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne adds depth to the lower order, complemented by the all-round capabilities of Wiaan Mulder and Marco Jansen.
Keshav Maharaj leads the spin contingent, with Senuran Muthusamy offering additional options in conditions that may favor turn as the match progresses.
