Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday unveiled a major development plan for Faisalabad, which includes the launch of a metrobus service and green electric buses aimed at improving urban transport.
Speaking at the Laptop and Talent Scholarship Phase II ceremony at GC University Faisalabad, the chief minister announced that the metrobus service will begin operations next year, offering a modern transit solution for the city’s growing population.
She added that electric buses will also be introduced as part of a broader environmental initiative. Maryam Nawaz emphasized that Faisalabad would undergo comprehensive development based on the Lahore model, with improvements extending beyond city limits to nearby towns and villages, which will be upgraded into model communities.
Later in the day, the chief minister visited Kamoke for an unannounced inspection of several locations. During the visit, she ordered a petrol pump to be sealed after it was found supplying under-measured fuel to customers.
She also inspected fuel stations and surrounding areas along GT Road, Tiba Muhammad Nagar, Kasoki Road underpass, and nearby service roads as part of the Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) initiative.
Expressing concern over poor sanitation, she directed local authorities to ensure daily waste collection and take strict action against violators. She also ordered the renovation, painting, and improved lighting of the Kasoki Road underpass to enhance safety for commuters.
