AI Is Now Seeing Patients: Saudi Arabia Opens First Clinic Without Human Doctors

Saudi Arabia has become the first country to open an artificial intelligence (AI) doctor clinic, marking a milestone in global medical innovation.

A Collaboration Between China and Saudi Arabia

The clinic, launched in April 2025, is the result of a partnership between Shanghai-based Synyi AI and Saudi Arabia’s Almoosa Health Group. Located in the eastern Al Ahsa region, the pilot clinic introduces an AI-powered virtual doctor known as “Dr. Hua.”

This initiative represents Synyi AI’s first overseas venture following its success in China, where the company has collaborated with over 800 hospitals and medical institutions since its establishment in 2016.

How Dr. Hua Works

Dr. Hua engages with patients via tablet-based consultations. Patients input symptoms, and the AI doctor responds with follow-up questions, analyzes diagnostic data—including ECGs and X-rays—and formulates a treatment plan. A licensed human doctor reviews and approves each treatment plan, maintaining a hybrid model that blends AI speed with human oversight.

Synyi AI CEO Zhang Shaodian emphasized the leap forward in capability: “AI has traditionally assisted doctors. Now, we are taking the final step—allowing AI to diagnose and treat directly.”

Impressive Accuracy, But Some Limitations

According to internal testing, the AI system’s error rate is reported at under 0.3%, underscoring its reliability. Currently, Dr. Hua is limited to diagnosing and managing 30 respiratory conditions, such as asthma and pharyngitis. However, the clinic plans to expand coverage to include up to 50 diseases across respiratory, gastrointestinal, and dermatological categories within a year.

Regional Expansion

The service is being offered free of charge during the trial phase while it collects diagnostic data for evaluation by Saudi health authorities. Full commercial deployment will follow regulatory approval.

Synyi AI also has plans to expand the AI clinic model across other hospitals in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.

  • More hype and 0 proof

AI doesn’t see any patients . It has no mechanism to do so. Same old claims as before.
