A spokesperson for Punjab Police reported that, so far this year, 3,375 individuals have been arrested across the province for violating the Anti-Kite Flying Act, with 3,301 FIRs registered in connection with these offenses.
Authorities have confiscated 446,506 kites and 15,888 spools of kite string. Challans have been submitted in 3,060 of these cases. In Lahore alone, police arrested 1,010 individuals, registered 991 cases, and seized 24,824 kites along with 1,168 spools of string.
In comparison, last year saw 12,525 arrests and 11,866 cases registered across Lahore and the rest of Punjab for similar violations.
The Inspector General of Punjab has directed that the amended Kite Flying Prohibition Bill be strictly enforced. Regional Police Officers (RPOs), City Police Officers (CPOs), and District Police Officers (DPOs) have been instructed to intensify operations against those who manufacture, sell, or engage in kite flying.
He stressed that this life-threatening practice must not be tolerated under any circumstances and called for a zero-tolerance policy. Those involved in the online sale of metallic string and kites must also face legal consequences, he added.
