Peshawar Zalmi Miss PSL Playoffs for the First Time in History

Peshawar Zalmi’s love affair with the PSL playoffs has officially come to an end with a loss to Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi.

Their 26-run defeat marks the end of one of the most consistent runs in Pakistan Super League history, as Zalmi will miss the final four for the first time in 10 editions of the tournament. Zalmi’s elimination was sealed after their defeat to Lahore Qalandars in a rain-shortened, must-win match at Rawalpindi on Sunday night. Chasing 150 in 13 overs, Peshawar were held to 123 for 8.

It was a bitter conclusion for a franchise that has defined consistency and resilience in the PSL since the inaugural season. From lifting the trophy in 2017 under Darren Sammy’s leadership to reaching four finals and never missing the knockout stage—until now—Zalmi had been the model of stability in an otherwise unpredictable league.

Their 2025 campaign, however, never quite ignited. Despite flashes of brilliance from their players, Zalmi couldn’t find the consistency needed to compete with this year’s stronger contenders. Their bowling, in particular, lacked bite, their middle order crumbled under pressure more often than not, and fielding errors, just like against the Qalandars, compounded their troubles in close matches.

With Multan already out, Peshawar’s unexpected exit makes this the first PSL playoffs to feature neither of the two most popular fan-backed teams.

For Zalmi, this isn’t just a missed playoff—it’s a wake-up call. The legacy remains, but the path forward will demand hard questions, bold decisions, and a fresh chapter. Babar Azam and co. now have a few months to sit down and jot down their strategies for next year and hopefully make a return to the place they belong—the PSL playoffs.
