These Railway Stations Are Being Transformed Into Dining Destinations

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi has announced new initiatives aimed at transforming railway stations into more modern, accessible, and people-friendly spaces. Chairing a key meeting on the renovation of Golra and Margalla stations, the minister emphasized the government’s intention to improve the public environment at major rail hubs.

Public Accessibility and Comfort

Addressing officials during the meeting, Hanif Abbasi stated that the core goal of the initiative is to provide commuters and visitors with a better and more welcoming atmosphere at railway stations. He noted that both Golra and Margalla stations will undergo upgrades designed to enhance public utility and visual appeal.

New Amenities and Infrastructure

According to the minister, modern-style restaurants will be developed at both stations. These will be outsourced to professional management teams to ensure quality and operational efficiency. “Citizens will be able to visit and enjoy these facilities at any time,” Abbasi said.

He also announced the installation of modern electric poles to enhance station lighting and overall ambiance. Clean, comfortable benches will be installed to encourage more public use of station spaces, particularly during evenings.

Facilities for Students and Local Visitors

Recognizing the needs of the youth and student communities near the stations, Abbasi revealed plans to build modern cafeterias specifically for students and local visitors. These additions are intended to make railway stations not just transit points, but community-friendly venues.

Vision for Future Stations

Hanif Abbasi reiterated that the Pakistan Railways’ broader mission includes modernizing key stations to create inclusive public spaces. “We are taking steps to ensure our railway stations are more than platforms—they should be destinations that offer convenience, comfort, and a sense of community,” he added.

  • MasAllah, nice to hear this I hope they can do something about the trains

  • We need to change the attitude of the railway employees. No one ones the national heritage/asset/service. Every one is an employee with zero liability and responsibilities. Even the Assistant Station Master on a complaint shamelessly replies ” I am an employee, what can I do”. For God sake go and sit at home and some responsible, competent and willing person do the job. People pay 10 and 12 thousand for the business class which is a garbage class.

  • Well done! As I thought of this idea several times. I hope and pray that this project starts soon and successfully. I am a senior citizen of Pakistan and have travelled to many countries and wouldn’t mind my services to offer to Pakistan Railways if at all they are willing to fulfil the dream as opportunities are unlimited. Best of luck
