In a major boost for tourism and regional travel, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has opened the Babusar Top highway nearly two months ahead of schedule, following directives from Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan.
Traditionally opened in July, the scenic mountain pass is now accessible to travelers in May, offering easier passage to Gilgit-Baltistan and the popular tourist destinations of Kaghan Valley and Naran.
An NHA spokesperson stated that “heavy glaciers and other natural barriers were cleared well before the expected timeframe,” allowing the early opening of the route. The move reflects the ministry’s dedication to improving infrastructure and accessibility in Pakistan’s northern areas.
The earlier opening is expected to shorten travel time to Gilgit-Baltistan by up to five hours, easing movement for both tourists and residents.
It also complements the recent restoration of the Kaghan-Naran Highway, highlighting the government’s focus on enhancing connectivity across the region.
The NHA has encouraged travelers to use the improved route and assured that regular maintenance and safety checks will be carried out throughout the peak tourist season.
