Yet again, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is making a move to swipe another international star from one of the Pakistan Super League (PSL X) franchises, this time eyeing a key Karachi Kings player as a stopgap solution for one of its franchises.
The latest name to be lured away is none other than New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert, who has been signed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as a temporary replacement for England’s Jacob Bethell.
Bethell is set to leave the IPL due to national commitments, prompting RCB to look towards Seifert, who is currently opening for Karachi Kings in the PSL. According to an IPL press release, Seifert will be available for selection from May 24, but his actual arrival in India will depend on how far Karachi Kings progress in the tournament.
If Karachi Kings make it to the PSL final, scheduled for May 25 in Lahore, Seifert will only join RCB after fulfilling his PSL duties. So far, Seifert has scored 226 runs in nine innings for the Kings at a strike rate of 145.80, with a best of 47. He has previously featured in the IPL for Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders, though only briefly.
Karachi Kings are set to play the PSL Eliminator against Lahore Qalandars on Thursday night. Should they advance, they will face Islamabad United the following day for a spot in the final. Seifert’s move to the IPL will be confirmed once Karachi’s PSL campaign comes to an end.
