Lahore Qalandars Made the PSL Final Without Their Head Coach

Lahore Qalandars have made it to the final of PSL X after dismantling Islamabad United in their backyard, with a chance to make history by winning their third PSL title—and they’ve done it without a head coach.

Team COO and Director Sameen Rana revealed that Russell Domingo, who was appointed head coach before the season, has not been with the team since the tournament restarted after its mid-season break.

“Russell Domingo has not been with us since the PSL resumed. The team is currently without a coach,” Rana told reporters after Lahore Qalandars’ game against United.

Despite the setback, Lahore have continued to perform well after the restart, winning key matches and showing strong team spirit. With no official coach on the sidelines, the team has leaned on experienced players and championship pedigree to guide them through.

Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, along with senior players like Fakhar Zaman, have taken on leadership roles, helping to keep the team focused and united during the crucial knockout stages.

The team had to battle past Karachi Kings and Islamabad United on consecutive nights to book their place in the final, but appear confident of taking down Quetta next.

Domingo, in his first season with the team, played a satisfactory but less-than-ideal role in the team’s success this year. Shaheen Afridi’s men were battling to enter the playoffs but did so with a win over Zalmi in Domingo’s absence—and haven’t looked back since.

It’s still unclear whether Domingo will return in the future or if his time with the Qalandars has quietly ended. For now, the team is focused on one thing: winning the PSL title.

This unexpected run to the final without a coach has added yet another dramatic chapter to the Qalandars’ PSL story.
