Car Runs Over 27 Fans at Liverpool Parade

A car drove into a crowd of Liverpool fans celebrating their team’s Premier League title in the city centre on Monday, sending 27 people to the hospital, including four children. Two people, one child, and one adult, are in serious condition. Police say the incident is not being treated as terrorism.

The collision occurred about 10 minutes after the Liverpool team’s open-top bus had passed by, according to eyewitnesses. Videos on social media showed the car ramming into spectators, with some people thrown into the air. Four people trapped under the vehicle were rescued by firefighters.

Police arrested a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area, believed to be the driver. Authorities said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and described it as isolated.

Twenty people were treated at the scene. Emergency services transported victims on stretchers, and debris was scattered on the road. The incident cast a shadow over what had been a day of celebration for hundreds of thousands of fans gathered for the parade.

Liverpool city council leader Liam Robinson called the incident “a very dark shadow over what had been a joyous day.” Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the scenes as “appalling” and said he was being kept updated.

Liverpool FC said it was in direct contact with police and expressed support for those affected. The club’s last title celebration was during the COVID pandemic, when public gatherings were not allowed.
