Liverpool have officially been crowned Premier League champions for the 2024-25 season after beating Tottenham 5-1 at Anfield on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s side needed just one point to secure the title but produced a dominant performance to win all three. Goals from Luis Díaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, and an own goal from Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie sealed the result.
Liverpool’s win means Arsenal can no longer catch them, even though there are still four matches left to play. The victory secures Liverpool’s 20th top-flight league title, meaning they have now matched Manchester United’s record for the most league titles in English football history.
Captain Virgil van Dijk, speaking to Sky Sports after the final whistle, said: “This is the most beautiful club in the world. We deserve this. We are going to enjoy the next couple of weeks. I was desperate to win it for all the fans.”
Mo Salah also made history during the match. His goal was his 185th in the Premier League, making him the highest-scoring foreign player in league history.
Interestingly, this is only Liverpool’s second Premier League title since the league began in 1992/93. They had won 18 top-flight titles beforehand, with Jürgen Klopp netting them their first Premier League championship during the 2020 season.
