Punjab Suddenly Changes Summer Vacation Schedule

The Punjab government has postponed the start of summer vacations in public schools by one day to observe Youm-e-Takbeer with full participation, according to an official notification issued on May 27, 2025.

Summer holidays were originally scheduled to begin on May 28; however, schools across the province will now remain open on that date to commemorate Pakistan’s nuclear achievements.

The School Education Department has directed all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities (DEAs) to organize special activities on May 28 in honour of Youm-e-Takbeer.

The day will begin with a special morning assembly featuring the national anthem, prayers, and a tribute to the Pakistan Army. In addition, competitions will be held at the district level in all public schools. These include:

  • Speech contests on the significance of Youm-e-Takbeer and Pakistan’s emergence as a nuclear power.
  • Art and poster competitions.
  • National song performances (Milli Naghmay).

Winners of the competitions at the district level will receive a prize of Rs. 50,000. Schools have been instructed to participate with enthusiasm, promoting themes of peace, patriotism, and technological progress.

After these events, summer vacations will officially begin on May 29.

  • No sane country will celebrate a day for testing explosives, bombs and missiles. These are the weapons of mass destruction, even if developed for self-defense. I don’t think we shall ever learn a lesson. This only shows our side as war-mongers. Had we developed anything unique and extraordinary that could have benefitted the masses, a celebration would perhaps have made some sense.
