The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Tuesday announced that the Zilhajj moon has not been sighted in any part of the country.
The decision was made following a meeting held in Islamabad, chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad. Zonal committees across the country also reported no credible moon sighting testimonies.
As a result, the first day of Zilhajj 1446 Hijri will fall on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Consequently, Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on Saturday, June 7, across Pakistan.
This announcement aligns with earlier predictions by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), which had stated that the moon would not be visible on May 27 due to unfavourable conditions.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is marked on the 10th day of Zilhajj. The festival commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God and is observed by the ritual sacrifice of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and the needy.
The three-day festival emphasizes charity, community, and faith and is one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar.
