On Thursday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz instructed provincial authorities to reduce the price of roti following a recent decline in flour rates.
Presiding over a high-level meeting focused on commodity pricing, the Chief Minister tasked the Price Control Department with taking swift action to adjust roti prices accordingly, ensuring that the relief from reduced flour costs is directly passed on to the public.
“The decrease in flour prices must be reflected in the cost of roti,” she stressed. “Every household should be able to afford it. The impact of this reduction must reach the people immediately.”

She further pledged to lower the cost of bread to what she described as “a historic low,” noting that rising food costs hit low-income families the hardest and must be addressed with urgency.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered officials to maintain strict oversight of essential food items—especially chicken, vegetables, and pulses—highlighting the burden price hikes place on ordinary citizens.
Expressing particular concern over the increasing cost of poultry, she said, “Even a weekly chicken meal is becoming unaffordable for the poor. I will not allow this situation to persist.”
She called for enhanced market inspections and firm action against those involved in hoarding or profiteering.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to shielding vulnerable populations from the adverse effects of food inflation.
