Govt Set to Issue New Solar Net Metering Policy Within a Month

Federal Minister for Energy Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari Thursday said that the government has finalized a revised net metering policy, set to be released within a month pending approval from the federal cabinet.

Speaking at a workshop, the minister said the updated policy aligns with the cabinet’s directives to support a sustainable transition to renewable energy and help lower electricity costs.

He acknowledged that recent fuel price hikes had led to higher monthly fuel adjustments. However, he emphasized that the overall trend in electricity prices across the country is downward.

He highlighted various consumer-focused initiatives introduced by the government over the past year, including significant reforms in the power sector.

“Electricity prices are steadily declining,” the minister stated. “There’s been a major shift toward solar energy, particularly in the agriculture and industrial sectors.” He added that industrial electricity tariffs have been reduced by 30 percent over the past year.

The minister said that a new tariff policy is expected to be announced soon by the Prime Minister to make industries more competitive.

  • Everything said is wrong

Electricity prices are still high. Too high for anyone to afford. 7 rs decrease is nothing. The people are generating their own electricity with 0 help from the govt.
The govt imposing taxes on people who generate their own electricity is criminal to the extreme .

Any govt that burdens people is asking to be brought down

  • What industry? People suffered through 14 hrs load shedding. What did govt do ? Nothing but make phony deals with IPPs.

People had to go into debt to buy solar to afford electricity they generate on their own

In this terrible heat , thanks to solar we can even survive this heat . No thanks to you or any govt .
