Govt Says No Proposal to Charge Higher Petrol Price on Cash Payments

There is no budget proposal under consideration to charge different prices of petroleum products for different categories of consumers after fixation of a single price by the federal government.

Sources told ProPakistani that the FBR is not considering any specific proposal for charging different prices of POL products for different consumers. “So far no such proposal is part of the Finance Bill 2025-26”, highly placed government officials said.

Sources clarified that the federal government fixes a single price of petroleum products like petrol for all consumers. This price is uniform for the general public. Legally, it is not possible to charge a different price for a consumer having a debit/credit card or a consumer paying cash.

It is also not legally possible to charge a different POL price for one customer (having card) and charge a higher price to another customer (paying cash) because the federal government has fixed a single price of this POL product.

When asked how the FBR is charging different sales tax rates in Islamabad-based restaurants and withholding tax on cash withdrawals from banks, top officials added that the price of POL products has been fixed by the federal government and this price cannot be made different for different consumers.
