International Cricket Likely at Niaz Stadium This Year After Upgradation

In a major step towards reviving international cricket in key regional cities, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced plans to upgrade the Niaz Stadium cricket stadium in Hyderabad and Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. The decision was made during an important meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

One of the main highlights of the meeting was the decision to renovate Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad to meet international standards. The stadium has not hosted an international game since an ODI in 2008, when Pakistan played Zimbabwe. But now, after 17 years, there is real hope that international cricket will return to the city.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that efforts are being made to host an international match at the Niaz Stadium within this year. He added that a PCB team will visit the venue next week to inspect the facilities and evaluate what upgrades are needed.

The revival of Niaz Stadium could be a game-changer for cricket in interior Sindh. With better stadiums and high-level matches, local talent will get more exposure, and fans can once again enjoy the thrill of live international cricket.

PCB had undertaken such projects for the Champions Trophy as well, which resulted in an elevated fan experience for the visitors in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

By focusing on Hyderabad and Faisalabad, PCB is signaling a shift toward inclusive cricket development, beyond just the major cities. These efforts are expected to strengthen Pakistan’s cricketing base and increase the sport’s reach across the country.
