Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza Files Racism Complaint

Zimbabwe’s T20I captain Sikandar Raza has lodged a formal complaint with the Harare Metropolitan Cricket Association (HMCA), alleging racist abuse directed at him during a recent Vigne Cup match.

Sources confirm that the incident occurred as Raza was leaving the field, when Rainbow Cricket Club head coach Blessing Mafuwa allegedly hurled racist remarks at the national team star. The altercation is said to have shocked players and onlookers alike.

Sikandar Raza, who has been a central figure in Zimbabwean cricket both on and off the field, is reported to have demanded severe disciplinary action against Mafuwa. The HMCA has acknowledged receipt of the complaint and confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.

Recent reports indicate that the HMCA’s investigation into the incident is ongoing, with both parties having submitted written statements. The Zimbabwe Cricket Board (ZC) has also expressed concern, stating that it is monitoring the situation closely and will take further action if necessary. According to local media, the Rainbow Cricket Club has temporarily suspended Blessing Mafuwa pending the outcome of the inquiry.

International cricket bodies, including the International Cricket Council (ICC), have reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on racism and are reportedly in contact with Zimbabwean officials to offer guidance and support.

As of now, a final decision from the HMCA disciplinary committee is expected within the next two weeks. The outcome could set a significant precedent for how similar cases are handled in Zimbabwean cricket going forward.
