Has Punjab Government Increased Motorcycle and E-Bike Registration Fees?

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has dismissed rumors circulating on social media regarding an increase in motorcycle and electric bike registration fees.

Spokesperson for the Finance, Excise and Taxation Minister, Amber Jabeen, told Geo Fact Check that there is no proposal under consideration to raise registration charges for motorcycles or e-bikes.

She also shared a message from Director General Excise and Taxation, Umar Sher, who termed the online claims as “speculative.”

According to Director of Enforcement and Audit, Asim Amin, the official fee structure remains unchanged:

• Up to 70cc: Rs. 1,000
• 71cc to 100cc: Rs. 1,500
• 101cc to 125cc: Rs. 2,000
• 126cc to 150cc: Rs. 2,500
• Above 150cc: 2% of the bike’s value

He added that electric bikes currently receive a 95% discount on both registration fees and token tax.

Furthermore, arepresentative of the Punjab Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) said no official notification has been issued regarding a Rs. 1,000 fee for motorcycle fitness certificates.

VICS has also not received any directives to inspect motorcycles, and the recently passed Provincial Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Ordinance 2025 does not list motorcycles among vehicles requiring mandatory fitness certificates
