Sindh Extends Deadline for Mandatory Biometric Verification for Vehicle Transfer

The Sindh government has extended the deadline for mandatory biometric verification for vehicle transfers and alterations to August 14. The extension was announced on Thursday through a notification issued by the Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department.

The policy, which requires biometric verification through the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), was first introduced on September 16, 2024. Under the new rules, all vehicle registrations and transfers—both for new and old vehicles—must undergo biometric authentication to ensure transparency and prevent fraudulent transactions.

Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, Taxation, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Memon, explained that the implementation would occur in three phases. The first phase, which began on July 1, 2024, made biometric verification mandatory for the registration of new vehicles. The second phase, starting November 1, 2024, extended the requirement to vehicle buyers. The third and final phase will require both sellers and buyers to complete biometric verification during the transfer process.

Minister Memon emphasized that the government’s goal is to make all excise processes more transparent and to lead the way in digitizing public services in Sindh. He highlighted that biometric authentication is a key step in accurately identifying vehicle buyers and sellers, thereby protecting citizens from illegal transfers and potential fraud.

Vehicle owners can complete the biometric verification process at any NADRA e-Facilitation Centre or district excise office across Sindh. The extension to August 14 provides additional time for citizens to comply with the new requirements and avoid any disruption in vehicle transfer or alteration procedures.

The Sindh government has urged all vehicle owners and sellers to complete their biometric verification before the new deadline to ensure smooth processing of their vehicle-related transactions.
