The Punjab Specialized Healthcare Department has implemented new age restrictions for postgraduate and fellowship medical training. This effectively prevents senior government-employed doctors from advancing their careers.
According to the recently issued policy, doctors over the age of 40 will be ineligible for postgraduate training, while those aged 45 and above will not qualify for the second fellowship program. This decision is expected to significantly impact senior doctors in public service, limiting their opportunities for professional growth despite their extensive experience.
Healthcare professionals and medical associations have criticized the age restrictions as discriminatory, expressing concerns that this policy may undermine morale and diminish the availability of highly trained specialists in government hospitals across the country.
