Thousands of Vehicles Seized and FIRs Registered in Punjab Over One Violation

The Punjab Traffic Police has intensified its enforcement campaign to curb dangerous travel practices across the province. More than 13,600 transporters were penalized this month for engaging in unsafe travel, as part of the ongoing crackdown.

According to Additional Inspector General of Traffic Police, Mirza Farhan Baig, fines totaling over Rs. 9.8 million were imposed on transporters found carrying passengers on rooftops, a practice that puts lives at serious risk.

More than 6,700 vehicles were impounded for such violations, and 666 drivers were booked under FIRs for endangering public safety.

The AIG emphasized that no one will be allowed to jeopardize passenger lives for the sake of profit. “We will not tolerate putting commuters’ lives at risk for financial gain,” he said.

To discourage unsafe travel habits, the traffic police have also launched a public awareness campaign. The initiative aims to educate both transporters and the public about road safety and the consequences of violating traffic rules.

The traffic police have urged all transporters to cooperate in ensuring public safety and protecting lives
