A detailed initiative has been launched to transform Lahore into Pakistan’s first “dust-free city.” As part of this campaign, regulations for construction activities will be made more stringent to control environmental impact.
Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, visited the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters, where LDA Director General Tahir Farooq briefed him on ongoing and proposed development projects.
Mengal emphasized that all departments involved in development work must adhere to uniform standards. He also noted that new legislation would be introduced to regulate the external designs of commercial properties. Environmental sustainability, he said, would be prioritized in all urban development efforts.
Mengal added that applying uniform standards to development projects would improve sustainability and management. He criticized the lack of coordination in the city’s commercial infrastructure, noting that poorly designed and mismatched commercial buildings diminish Lahore’s aesthetic appeal. He called for a unified strategy to ensure sustainable and organized urban growth, where all departments follow consistent development protocols.
During the briefing, the LDA DG shared progress updates, noting that property records have been digitized and building plans can now be approved online. He also revealed that for the first time, revenue generation has crossed Rs. 25 billion, and 990 kanals of land — worth billions — have been recovered. LDA-controlled areas are now being monitored through a digital monitoring unit.
Additionally, representatives from NESPAK presented the proposed plan for the Yellow Line Bus Service during the meeting.

Sab Bakwas hai, L per charh gaye Government and L per charh ky bhi ye kabhi DUST free nahi bana sakte, yahan aik dust-storm ajaye to sara din light nahi aati, Dust is dunya ka hisa ha, Nizam ko theek kero na ki bakwas kisam ki chezein kery ye Government.
Ja be baingan
First put all electric wires underground so that at the slightest wind electricity doesnt go off. Then grow indiginous trees all over punjab and densly in lahore and area surrounding lahore so it cools the city. There is no such thing as dust free. Buildings need to be uniformlly built and maintained. Maintenance is very poor.
I LIVE NEAR KAMAHAN LIDER ROAD. IT IS NOW THICKLY POPULATED AREA. THE ROAD CONDITION WAS WORST. SO IT WAS PLANNED TO BUILD A DOUBLE ROAD FROM FEROZEPUR RD TO BEDIAN ROAD, IT TOOKS 10 YEARS, BUT INSTEAD UNDERPASS AND OVER HEAD BRIDGES WERE BUILT ALL AROUND. THE REMAINING LITTLE FUND COULD NOT BUILD A DOUBLE ROAD, SO A SINGLE ROAD WAS BUILT ON A SMALL PORTION ONLY. SOME AREA OF LAHORE SHOWS IT IS A RICH COUNTRY WHILE OTHER SHOWS IT IS A POOR ONE.THIS IS HOW THE RESOURCES ARE SPENT IN PAKISTAN.
plant trees in every available space
Where ? Most trees were cut off for parking spaces and your grab McDonald’s KFC and malls
Please share the reference kindly?
Great initiative.
Please construct Bedian Road to 6 lanes as it is pending since Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was CM Punjab.
CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif should get credit of this landmark project
So basically increase smog
This is a brilliant initiative been taken by the Punjab Government. I hope it comes to fruition. Love to see a dust free Lahore of my childhood days. There’s still hope for the citizens.
It won’t.. no hope
It has to be the biggest joke in the universe. Instead of such jokes focus on planting as much trees in Lahore as possible because Lahore is already becoming too hot to live so do not lose the whole city where you have already invested billions of dollars and make it liveable again ,by converting at least half of housing societies in city into jungles or forests if you want to sustain the city
That’s bcz we the people are told to plant trees while companies and builders destroy existing trees. It takes over 20 years for a single plant to become a tree
It takes only 1 day to cut thousands of trees
I really wonder how to and how much to laugh
I noticed Maryam Nawaz has not mentioned in all this conversation.
Why all initiatives / urban planning measures are taken in lahore and Punjab? Who will take care of other cities, for example Mingora Swat. The beautiful valley of Swat is now converted into jungle of buildings and traffic congestion. No political and administrative structures exist to look after the city currant future problems.
dust free City Lahore.Just imagine…Will be a eye opening for rest of cities.
Assalam O Alaikum: I am the person who sent a six page writeup to govt. on this topic and made phone calls to higher-ups. In my suggestions I told them the main cause of dust. I am very happy on this initiative. Can any one tell me which department will implement it?
Before peddling ‘wishful thinking’ of narcist CM at least you should know a basic fact that your frequent or occasional readers are not fools to suffer whole year and read single page and embrace it.
Lahore remains in the list of worst cities during winter season due to SMOG.
Another slop from rija 😆
To become ? You mean it isnt lol
I think we should also do the same to Karachi and we should also think about Karachi as it has potential with many people living in it and there is an enormous room for improvement…
Mengal ka Saasta Nashaa will lead to dust free Lahore soon… As soon as he takes a puff, all of Lahore would have clean air, better than that of the Himalayas
