Punjab Shuts Down Emission Testing Booth at Key Location in Lahore

The Environment Protection and Climate Change Department has announced the closure of the Emission Testing System (ETS) booth at Metro Thokar Niaz Baig due to technical reasons.

In an official statement issued on Friday, the department informed citizens that the booth had been shut down and a new location would be announced soon. Citizens seeking further information have been advised to contact the department’s helpline at 1373.

This announcement comes shortly after Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved an extension in the deadline for the free ETS service across Lahore. The service, which was originally set to conclude on June 30, has now been extended until August 31, 2025, providing more time for vehicle owners to avail the emissions testing facility at no cost.

The free ETS initiative aims to control vehicular pollution in the provincial capital by encouraging emissions checks for motorcycles, cars, and other vehicles. Authorities had previously indicated that after the free service ends, emissions testing responsibilities would shift to authorized dealerships, where vehicle owners would be charged Rs. 400 per test.

For now, the public is urged to stay updated through official channels and utilize other available ETS booths across the city while a replacement location for Thokar Niaz Baig is finalized.
