Pakistan football team’s head coach Stephen Constantine is being linked with a return to India after reportedly falling out of favour with the Pakistan Football Federation.
According to sources in the local media, Stephen Constantine’s current situation with Pakistan is uncertain. Despite expressing interest in continuing with the Pakistan Men’s National Team for their Asian Cup Qualifiers campaign, the Englishman has reportedly not received clear assurances from the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) about an extension.
Pakistan’s footballing standards have also declined under his watch in recent years, which has raised the chances of his departure.
Meanwhile, India is looking to replace Manolo Marquez after his resignation from the role. Marquez, who was appointed in June 2024 on a two-year deal, stepped down after just one year as the Indian team struggled under his watch.
The development has fueled speculation that Stephen Constantine, who guided India from 2015 to 2019 and remains well-regarded there, could be considered for a second stint. According to reports in India, the AIFF plans to formally advertise the head coach position shortly, but Constantine is believed to be among the names already under discussion.
Stephen Constantine was appointed by Pakistan in September 2023 and led the side through a historic qualifying campaign that saw them register their first-ever World Cup qualifying win. He will be remembered by footballing faithfuls in the country, but the team’s declining standards may have forced the new PFF administration to look elsewhere.
Where the Englishman ends remains to be seen, but with all three parties looking for a swift resolution, the answers could be coming shortly.
