PCB Confirms Talks Over Structure of Pakistan-West Indies Series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that it is in discussions with the West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) to expand the number of matches in the upcoming T20I series, with a final decision expected in the coming days.

Speaking to the media following Pakistan’s squad announcement for the Bangladesh tour, PCB’s COO Sumair Ahmad Syed confirmed that a final solution is expected soon.

Pakistan is currently scheduled to face the West Indies on their turf for three T20Is and three ODIs, but the PCB remains keen on converting the 50-over games to T20 fixtures in order to prepare the team for the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup next year. With several new players being trialed and leadership roles reassessed, more matches against quality opposition like the West Indies offer critical opportunities for player development and squad stability.

The West Indies, similarly, are in a transitional phase, and an extended T20I series would benefit both sides as they rebuild depth and experiment with combinations. However, there have been reports that the hosts remain committed to the original schedule and have no intentions of changing the tour itinerary.

The final agreement will depend on a number of logistical and scheduling considerations, but there is hope that a balance can be struck.

Meanwhile, the PCB has confirmed that the squad for the Pakistan-West Indies series will also be announced in due course after the confirmation of the length of the tour. If the ODIs retain their place, the PCB will likely have to name two squads for the series.

For now, Pakistan’s management continues to evaluate performance from the Bangladesh series before finalizing its next steps. A longer T20 West Indies series could prove vital in shaping Pakistan’s white-ball roadmap in the months ahead.
