Pakistan Hockey Federation Under Fire as PSB Demands Answers

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is already facing a player revolt due to its financial crisis, and things are about to get much worse. The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has refused to release travel and daily allowances (TA/DA) for the country’s hockey teams and has asked the federation to submit a complete record of its spending over the past year.

In a strongly worded letter addressed to the PHF President, the PSB questioned the federation’s repeated requests for financial help despite its continued failure to provide proper documentation for previously disbursed funds.

The PSB noted that the PHF’s “persistent non-compliance” had been raised with both the president and the secretary general several times, but the required financial records were still missing.

The letter also clarified that the payment of TA/DA to players and officials, especially at rates decided by the federation itself, was the PHF’s own responsibility. “PSB bears no liability in this regard,” it said.

PSB’s probe into the Pakistan Hockey Federation comes after the PHF approached the sports board for funds to clear the unpaid dues of the players, despite earlier claiming they had enough resources.

Now, the sports board is demanding detailed documents from the PHF, including:

  • Certified bank statements of all operational and grant-utilisation accounts for the past six months
  • A full record of foreign tours taken by the PHF president and secretary, including purpose, dates, destinations, costs, and funding sources
  • A detailed breakdown of expenses for setting up the new PHF sub-office in Islamabad, along with proof of approval from the federation’s Executive Board

While the PSB did not set a deadline for the requested submissions, sources say that the PHF could lose all future support from the board if it fails to respond and comply with the latest directives which would hit the players the hardest.

With questions mounting and the players already voicing frustration over unpaid dues, Pakistan hockey finds itself at a critical crossroads yet again, battling not just opponents on the field, but administrative chaos off it.
