Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, has instructed officials to promptly introduce pelican crossings and advanced traffic lights on key highways.
These directives were issued during a high-level meeting at CDA Headquarters on Saturday, where progress on the city’s beautification and infrastructure upgrades was reviewed.
The session was attended by CDA Board Members, including Talat Mehmood (Administration and Estate), Syed Nafasat Raza (Engineering), Esfandyar Baloch (Environment), Dr. Khalid Hafiz (Planning), Tahir Naeem (Finance), and other senior staff.
The CDA’s MPO Wing also provided updates on ongoing road maintenance, including new lane markings, kerb repairs, and patchwork on major routes.
Randhawa highlighted that, alongside the construction of new roads, underpasses, and highways, existing thoroughfares such as Islamabad Expressway, Jinnah Avenue, Srinagar Highway, Margalla Road, Club Road, Park Road, and Faisal Avenue are being upgraded.
Efforts are also underway to improve zebra crossings, footpaths, green spaces, and the overall appearance of road medians and sides.
He further directed that major roundabouts be artistically redesigned and that more urban forests be planted to help combat pollution in the capital. The finance department was instructed to expedite the release of funds to avoid any delays in development projects.
The meeting also addressed the redesign of the Rawal Chowk Interchange, with Randhawa calling for the inclusion of cultural motifs from all provinces, including Islamabad. Plans for installing modern SMD screens and decorative lighting at the site were also discussed.
Additionally, Randhawa ordered the renovation of pedestrian bridges on all major roads and the construction of new bridges along Park Road to further improve pedestrian access and safety.
