Pakistan’s baseball teams are beginning to make a mark on the international stage, and that has been reflected in their global rankings in the latest update.
According to the latest update from the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), Pakistan’s men’s team has moved up three places to 35th, while the women’s team has improved from 17th to 14th, reflecting growing progress and competitiveness in a sport still developing in the country.
Regionally, the Pakistan women’s team now ranks 7th in Asia, and the men’s team sits 8th, signaling a promising upward trajectory. Japan, meanwhile, remains the undisputed No. 1 in both the men’s and women’s rankings, maintaining its dominance both globally and across Asia.
The Pakistan men’s baseball team has started to turn promise into concrete action, with key appointments for both the senior and junior teams as they fight to hang with the big boys of world baseball.
The women’s team has also taken a step further, with several athletes being sent on foreign training programmes to better their skills.
Speaking about the recent improvements, Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF) Secretary Fakhar Ali Shah emphasized that the climb in rankings is particularly encouraging, given the team’s absence from the last Asian Games—a major continental event. “Despite missing a key event like the Asian Games, our ranking continues to improve. This is a testament to the hard work and direction our teams are headed in,” he said.
The dual progress of both teams along with international training opportunities and the recruitment of professional coaching staff suggests a growing seriousness in Pakistan’s baseball ambitions. While the road to competing with global powerhouses like Japan remains long, the steady rise in rankings offers a clear sign that the sport is gaining momentum at home.
