Lahore Safe City Project to Get Major Upgrades

The Punjab government has decided to upgrade the Lahore Safe City Authority’s infrastructure, as officials revealed that the software and hardware system installed in 2016 has become outdated.

According to Safe City officials, the existing system will be modernized in three phases to meet current technological needs. The total cost of upgrading both software and hardware is estimated at Rs. 3 billion.

In the current fiscal year, the government has allocated Rs. 1 billion for the first phase of the upgrade. This phase includes the installation of new surveillance cameras, a Traffic Intelligence Management System, and improved data management.

Officials explained that the plan involves a complete overhaul of software and network systems to shift from the aging infrastructure to a modern, more efficient setup.

They noted that other cities have already adopted advanced technologies, and Lahore’s system must now follow suit. The upgrade process is expected to be completed within two years, after which the entire Safe City operation will function on updated technology.
