Pakistan hockey fans have reason to be optimistic as the national team edges closer to a coveted return to top-tier international competition through FIH’s Pro League.
According to Sohail Imran, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has received encouraging signals regarding participation in the prestigious FIH Pro League 2025–26, though the final decision remains pending.
Official confirmation is anticipated in the coming days, with the International Hockey Federation (FIH) setting August 12 as the deadline for Pakistan to accept the invitation. The PHF has already expressed optimism about the team’s inclusion, hinting at a positive outcome for the national side.
According to reports by Adnan Zakir, the decision has already been confirmed, with the Pakistan Cricket Board reportedly stepping in after pleas to help cover the necessary funds.
Pakistan’s potential entry comes on the heels of significant developments in the global hockey landscape. New Zealand’s men’s team recently pulled out of the Pro League, citing financial constraints linked to broad budget reductions in the country’s Olympic program. The Kiwi withdrawal has opened the door for new contenders.
Having finished runners-up in the FIH Nations Cup, Pakistan emerged as the immediate next contender for elevation to the Pro League, making their prospective inclusion both timely and earned, but PHF’s own funding issues also complicated the matter.
For now, anticipation runs high within the hockey fraternity as an official announcement is expected by week’s end. If confirmed, Pakistan will join an elite group for the FIH Pro League 2025–26, including Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Germany, India, Ireland, Netherlands, and Spain—once again giving the “green shirts” a chance to shine on the world stage.
