Three New Bus Stations Planned in Green Line BRT

Karachi residents can look forward to improved public transport as the second phase of the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project is set to commence in the second week of August.

The initial segment of the Green Line, stretching from Surjani Town to Numaish, was completed in 2021. Now, after a four-year gap, construction is about to begin on the next section.

This phase will add a 1.8-kilometer route, running from Capri Cinema to Municipal Park in Saddar. Plans include the construction of three new bus stations for commuters and the installation of two dedicated traffic signals. The new stretch will serve as a key corridor for the Green Line BRT.

Tenders for this phase have already been awarded. With an additional Rs. 5 billion allocated, the total project cost has now reached Rs. 30 billion.

Initially, the Federal Government had allocated a combined total of Rs. 42.7 billion for the Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Karachi under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2025-26.

Once fully operational and integrated with other transport lines, the BRT is expected to significantly reduce travel times, ease traffic congestion, and lower carbon emissions.
