The National Assembly was informed on Friday that an anti-drug campaign is ongoing in educational institutions, and more than 1,400 kilograms of narcotics have been seized in recent operations.
The government has repeatedly expressed concern over the alleged rising use of drugs in the country’s educational institutions and has taken measures to curb it.
In a written reply to a question during Friday’s session, Federal Minister for Interior Mohsin Naqvi stated that the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) recently launched a targeted anti-drug campaign in educational institutions.
“The ANF carried out 269 operations across approximately 263 universities nationwide and seized 1,427 kilograms of narcotics, while 426 individuals involved in drug trafficking were arrested,” he added.
The written reply stated that educational institutions were not included in the drug survey conducted 12 years ago. It added that the prime minister has directed that a national survey on drug use be carried out, and this survey is being conducted by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. It is expected to be completed by 2026.
