The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has scrapped its earlier plan to widen the loops of Faizabad Interchange and will instead pursue a complete redesign and expansion of the entire interchange to address long-standing traffic congestion.
The decision came during a meeting on Friday chaired by CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa. The authority had recently invited bids for a Rs. 200 million project aimed at widening the loops of the 1990s-era interchange, which serves as the main gateway to Islamabad and a frequent site for protest gatherings.
Although bids were opened, the CDA chose not to issue a work order, concluding that loop widening would be only a temporary fix. “We want a permanent solution for the next three decades,” CDA Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza said. “The chairman has directed us to design the entire project.”
Three consultant firms have been tasked with preparing a master plan, which will be presented to the interior minister once completed. Construction is expected to proceed in phases, following the approved design and available budget.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had earlier directed the CDA to resolve daily traffic bottlenecks at the interchange, especially on the loop connecting Murree Road with the Islamabad Expressway.

Just remove the check post the flow will.be smooth towards Islamabad.
Yeah that’s also one thing but this interchange must be redesigned as there’s no checkpost going towards t-chock side but that side is always congested by the traffic coming from ijp+murree road. Also, there’s no way of directly connecting to ijp road going towards pirwadhai, coming from Islamabad side. I hope that will also be considered in redesigning.
Yeah thats true and lot of people walk there due to population nearby. they should also build walking bridges and footpaths. I met very bad accident there while walking

How about building sewage treatment plants in Islamabad? Right now all sewage goes into nearby open nullahs contaminating the water
More focus needs to be on water based projects including dams, pipelines, sewage treatment systems so that both the issue of floods as well as shortage of water can handled. Otherwise this city cannot sustain for “three decades” for which they are planning road expansions and interchanges.
For now loop expansion, traffic management and heavy traffic diversion via Ring road (after completion) can significantly resolve the issue
I mean can you please start focusing on water storage? Building dams maybe? I mean we know that whenever N league are in authority their only concerns is to build roads and nothing else.. please first go with basic things. Maybe proper check on domiciles of people shifting to islamabad and asking for a reason to change? Abolish quota system which already destroyed peaceful islamabad.. thanks
Remove check I 8 check post
I hope this contract will not be awarded to the same company that built the Jinnah Avenue underpass, which started sinking and developing potholes just two months after opening.
Another one to keep the contractors pocket hot with plenty of kickbacks for election campaigns. We Islambadis are fed up of so many road projects let us live in peace now and focus on your kickback generating projects elsewhere
These people gave zero sense of architectural designs of such loops etc. Better to request some kuffar countries to redesign this interchange. Their work might be good for 5 decades.
Aao this is my suggestion parrel Road Fiazabad from pirwadhi towords Rawat side New fly over bridge end of Sohawan Stop
