Punjab Gets Pakistan’s First Tourism Highway

The Punjab government has completed construction of Lahore’s first dedicated tourism highway, the Wagah Heritage Corridor, on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. The project is designed to enhance travel infrastructure and tourism along the route to the Wagah Border.

Project Details

The corridor spans 13 kilometers, running from Quaid-e-Azam Interchange to the Wagah Border’s Zero Line. Authorities have spent Rs. 285 million on the project so far. The main carriageway is 68 feet wide, with 20-foot-wide service roads constructed on both sides to accommodate heavy traffic.

Infrastructure Improvements

The project includes several key upgrades:

  • A 22-kilometer reinforced cement concrete (RCC) drainage system to address waterlogging and improve sanitation.
  • Construction of a 10-kilometer decorative wall along the route.
  • Installation of modern solar-powered street lights for improved road safety and energy efficiency.

The Wagah Heritage Corridor is expected to provide better travel facilities for both domestic and international tourists, particularly those attending the daily flag-lowering ceremony at the border. Visitors, including Sikh pilgrims from India, will see illuminated portraits of national figures and cultural displays representing Pakistan’s heritage.

Community Benefits

In addition to boosting tourism, the upgraded road and new drainage system aim to resolve long-standing infrastructure problems in the surrounding area. Officials believe the project will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance the travel experience for millions of citizens who use the route each year.

    • Government isn’t responsible for the fvat that you arent able to do anytbing for yourself. You ask the govt to feed you food and stuff for free while doing nothing

    • What do you expect from noon league! Highways and road construction are the best opportunity for them to turn black money into white money.

    • Why your angery? Its none of yours business on how government is planning because your not in charge. If you can’t support your own motherland, then don’t even bark against it. Give respect and take respect 🙏

I don’t care if Government is helping me or not. Because I’m happy that atleast I’m pakistani. If you want to yap then go ask Quaid azam.

  • Please stop these dramas. Building good roads is a fundamental necessity but do not call it a tourism highway. There is no such thing as ‘tourism’ in Pakistan and only the locals visit Wagha border. The VIPs are taken there under strict security. In any case a road leading to Pakistan-India border cannot be associated with tourism because only HATRED travels in that direction. Please do something useful for the common man and stop these cosmetic ventures.

  • We dig & damage roads firstly then we again approve a handsome amount to rebuild the roads. Behave like childish players destruction and construction……
    Aaaahhh¡

  • Lilah to jhelum dual carriage road has not been constructed since four years and the people of Pind Dadn Khan and adjoining areas are suffering a lot but chief minister is only worried about lahore wellbeing

  • A concrete step in the direction of Sharif family’s and Najam Sethi/ Jugno Mohsin families’ long standing dream of one punjab.

  • Road leads to development in larger part, its tested every where. But unfortunately We are such a nation that we criticise development project.
