Ombudsman Summons Officials Over D-Chowk Traffic Mess

The Wafaqi Mohtasib has taken notice of severe traffic congestion at D-Chowk and summoned officials of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration and the Environment Department on August 29 to explain the situation.

According to details, the Environment Department has been carrying out a vehicle inspection exercise for the past several weeks to check whether cars in the capital meet environmental standards. A camp was set up at D-Chowk for this purpose, where the activity runs from morning until late afternoon.

However, the placement of the inspection point in the Red Zone has led to major traffic disruptions. Citizens lodged complaints with the Ombudsman’s office, stating that the exercise has caused significant inconvenience to commuters and families in the area.

The Ombudsman questioned why such a sensitive location was selected for the inspections and whether any awareness campaign had been launched beforehand. He also asked why the department had chosen only one spot in the federal capital for the process, which has resulted in severe congestion in surrounding areas.

To address the issue, the commissioner, deputy commissioner, and director general of the Environment Department have been summoned on Friday, August 29, to provide clarification.
